+ Do not tumble dry your bikini
+ Be careful with rough surfaces (e.g. on slides)
Reduce your washing temperature
The hotter you wash, the more fiber breakage occurs. This is because the fibers become softer and can therefore be detached more easily.

Use eco-friendly detergent
With every wash cycle, your detergent is discharged from the washing machine into our water system. Ecologically degradable detergents can be regenerated more quickly and can be removed from the water without residue. There are now even alternatives such as laundry balls, which help you to use almost no detergent at all.

Air-dry your laundry
We know that the dryer makes life (especially with children) a lot easier. Unfortunately, however, the greatest fiber abrasion occurs in the dryer. It is better to let your laundry air dry. Not only do you save energy and money, but you also extend the life of your clothes, as they are less susceptible to fiber breakage.
Avoid direct sunlight
Direct sunlight can cause your products to fade. Therefore, it is best to dry them in the shade or indoors on warm summer days.
Reduce spin speed
Your washing machine has a specific spin speed for each program, but this is usually not necessary. The lower the spin speed, the less friction is generated, thus protecting your clothes. But be careful: avoid the delicate wash cycle! This is because a very large amount of water is added to the laundry, and thus more fibers are flushed out (you can find more about this in the study by the University of Plymouth).

Use a wash bag
When washing, fibers break out of the fabric structure due to mechanical stress and abrasion. When using a wash bag such as the Guppyfriend, you can dispose of the fiber breakage directly in the residual waste after washing. Due to the special production method of the wash bag, the fibers cannot escape from the Guppyfriend. To get through the opening, the fiber would have to pierce vertically through the fabric.

However, due to the water in and around the bag and the movement, the fibers are never vertically aligned, but always slightly bent. They therefore cannot pierce through the fabric. Even if a fiber should protrude from the fabric, it is pushed back into the bag. Wash bags protect clothes and reduce fiber loss by up to 86 percent (according to a test by the Fraunhofer Institute) compared to washing without one.
